The role:
Join our team as an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer and take a leading role in the design and development of our advanced systems. Reporting to the Plant Engineering Team Lead, you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, gaining mentorship from experienced leaders while contributing your own expertise. This role is ideal for someone who is organized, detail-driven, and thrives on solving complex challenges.
At Saltworks, Mechanical Engineers in the Plant Design team make a meaningful impact by:
- Translating process designs into code-compliant, fabrication-ready mechanical systems using a variety of tools such as Plant3D, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Solidworks.
- Participating in collaborative design sessions with multi-disciplinary teams, while identifying risks and opportunities along the way.
- Preparing fabrication drawings using GD&T and maintaining engineering documentation.
- Supporting Production by providing clear documentation and assisting with troubleshooting and design updates as needed.
- Contributing to the continuous improvement of CAD standards, templates, and design practices.
- Taking ownership of assigned design tasks and supporting projects through fabrication and implementation.
- A degree in Mechanical or Integrated Engineering.
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- P.Eng. registration (or eligibility) through EGBC or another Canadian regulator.
- Proficiency using SolidWorks and/or Plant 3D for mechanical and plant design.
- Experience working on plant-scale systems.
- Industrial piping design experience and familiarity with ASME B31.3, BPVC, and CSA B51-14 standards, pipe stress analysis, and skidded piping design.
- Familiarity with industrial plant design and P&IDs.
- Exposure to PLM and ERP systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a desire to work in a highly collaborative engineering environment.
- A proactive attitude and willingness to support hands-on work as needed.
- Ability to travel occasionally within North America as required.
- Advanced SolidWorks capabilities (sheet metal, large assemblies, PDM).
- Structural frame or high-pressure stainless steel piping design.
