The role:

Are you a creative and driven engineering professional looking to lead? We’re seeking a Manager of Mechanical Engineering & Design to oversee the development of modular plants that transform industrial water into valuable resources and enable lithium extraction. Working closely with our VP of Engineering and CEO, you’ll drive meaningful projects with global impact while leading a talented team of engineers.

Your key responsibilities: 

  • Product & Process Knowledge: Learn about Saltworks’ products, processes, and unique contributions to deliver advanced water treatment and lithium plants.
  • Leadership & Team Management:                
    • Leading and inspiring a team of skilled mechanical engineers to design world-class modular plants.
    • Support recruitment, retention, and career planning of team members with executive-level support.
  • Mechanical Design Oversight:
    • Oversee the integration of mechanical, process, and electrical systems.
    • Lead the creation of plant layouts, piping systems, and component design using SolidWorks.
    • Ensure compliance with engineering codes and project requirements.
  • Collaboration & Communication:
    • Communicate risks and opportunities to senior management.
    • Work with engineering leaders and the Director of Production to prioritize and deliver key products.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
    • Contribute to company strategy and R&D for future product development.
    • Drive improvements in engineering workflows.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement with a focus on quality and innovation.
You will be a great fit if you have:
  • Education & Credentials: A degree in Mechanical Engineering and eligibility for P.Eng. registration in BC within 1 year (we’ll support this process).
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years in industrial or manufacturing environments, with expertise in mechanical systems or plant design.
    • Proven experience in managing teams, including setting clear work targets, ensuring the quality of engineering deliverables, collaborating with external teams to develop practical plans, balancing priorities with available resources, and resolving complex challenges effectively.
    • Proficiency in standards such as ASME and B31.3, and working knowledge of pressure piping design, heat exchangers, pumps, etc.
    • Designed integrated process-mechanical-electrical systems using SolidWorks, balancing space constraints, costs, and accessibility for maintenance. 
  • Skills:
    • Strong problem-solving and organizational abilities.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
    • A proactive, detail-oriented mindset and a passion for delivering quality.
    • Ability to work well within a team.
  • Bonus Skills: Experience with PDM systems, AutoCAD P&ID, or hands-on troubleshooting and tooling work.
