Senior Mechanical Engineer
Saltworks Technologies is a leading Canadian cleantech company solving two of the world's most pressing industrial challenges: water sustainability and critical minerals supply. We design and build advanced industrial water treatment and lithium refining systems for some of the world's most recognized companies – in semiconductors, mining, automotive, and more. Saltworks is a 2025 Fast 50 Company and EY Entrepreneur of the Year award winner.
The role
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will play a key part in the design and delivery of complex mechanical systems, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to drive high-quality engineering outcomes. You will take ownership of designs from concept through fabrication and commissioning. This position requires a high level of technical expertise, strong attention to detail, and a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset.
Mechanical Engineers at Saltworks make a positive contribution by
- Leading the translation of process designs into code-compliant, fabrication-ready mechanical systems using SolidWorks, ensuring structural integrity, manufacturability, and adherence to applicable codes and standards.
- Driving cross-functional design alignment through collaborative design reviews, proactively identifying technical risks, resolving complex challenges, and optimizing for performance, safety, and compliance.
- Overseeing the development and quality of fabrication documentation, including advanced GD&T application, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and consistency across all internal and external deliverables.
- Acting as a technical authority for Production, providing build-ready documentation, guiding fabrication strategies, and leading troubleshooting efforts on the shop floor or on-site.
- Owning and continuously improving CAD systems, libraries, and design standards, driving best practices, efficiency, and scalability across engineering teams.
- Taking full accountability for the integrity, performance, and lifecycle of assigned designs, from concept through fabrication, commissioning, and operational support.
- A degree in Mechanical or Integrated Engineering.
- 10+ years of relevant, post-graduation experience in mechanical design within industrial or process environments.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation through Engineers and Geoscientists British Columbia or another Canadian engineering regulator (or eligibility to obtain).
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including routing, large assemblies, weldments, sheet metal, drawings, and PDM systems.
- Strong experience with industrial plant design, including interpreting and working with P&IDs and concurrent engineering practices.
- Experience working with PLM (e.g., Aras Innovator) and ERP systems.
- Working knowledge of applicable piping codes and standards (e.g., ASME B31.3, BPVC, CSA B51).
- Demonstrated hands-on mechanical aptitude, with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in both design and production environments.
- Experience designing structural frames and/or high-pressure stainless steel piping systems (considered an asset).
- Familiarity with design for assembly and LEAN methodologies (preferred).
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and clearly convey technical information.
- A proactive, ownership-driven mindset, with a willingness to contribute hands-on when needed.
- Willingness to travel occasionally to sites within North America as required.
