AI Specialist
Saltworks Technologies is a leading Canadian cleantech company solving two of the world's most pressing industrial challenges: water sustainability and critical minerals supply. We design and build advanced industrial water treatment and lithium refining systems for some of the world's most recognized companies — in semiconductors, mining, automotive, and industrial processing. Saltworks is a 2025 Fast 50 Company and EY Entrepreneur of the Year award winner.
The role
Saltworks is seeking an implementation-focused AI Specialist to accelerate AI adoption across the organization — embedding AI into real engineering and operational workflows at a cleantech company building complex industrial systems. As a member of the Data Systems team, you will work closely with managers and departments to identify opportunities, develop AI agents and workflows, and structure data for AI ingestion, equipping staff with the skills and infrastructure to work smarter and move faster.
This is an on-site role at our office in Richmond, BC, with limited opportunity for remote work. You must be located in or be willing to relocate to the Lower Mainland.
Key responsibilities
- Work with the team to define the business case and requirements for AI agents before development begins.
- Build, test, and deploy agents, ensuring security best practices and clear functional separation.
- Structure organizational data for AI ingestion.
- Investigate and deploy AI tools tailored to specific team and department needs.
- Act as Saltworks' AI subject matter expert: models, frameworks, best practices, and risk management.
- Deliver hands-on training to help staff apply AI to their specific work.
- Support integrating AI into Saltworks' enterprise software systems and process plant systems.
- Own AI-related data privacy, access controls, and security governance with IT.
You will be a great fit if you have
- A track record of delivering AI or automation projects end-to-end, with experience working across technical and non-technical teams.
- A degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Business, or a related technical field.
- Daily use of AI tools and a solid understanding of associated risks such as hallucinations and data leakage.
- Hands-on experience building and deploying AI agents.
- Familiarity with AI libraries and communication protocols e.g. MCP, SDKs, A2A.
- Experience integrating AI with enterprise software systems e.g. ERP or PLM.
- A collaborative self-starter who leads by doing and communicates with clarity and directness.
- Bonus – proficiency in Python, JavaScript, and SQL.
