The role:
We are seeking a motivated Junior Project Engineer to join our growing team at Saltworks. This role offers meaningful ownership and responsibility, with mentorship and support as you continue to grow.
Junior Project Engineers at Saltworks are on a defined career path toward becoming Project Managers, gaining exposure to the full project lifecycle while working closely with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams. You will support the delivery of innovative industrial desalination and resource recovery solutions that make a real impact on industry and the planet.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support projects from concept through execution, taking on increased responsibility as you grow in the role.
- Assist with planning, coordination, and task tracking across the project lifecycle.
- Work closely with Chemical, Mechanical, and Electrical Engineers to develop work packages for production.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to specify and source equipment and components (e.g., pumps, valves, motors, filters).
- Support Supply Chain, Production, and Quality teams to help ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to quality standards.
- Assist with commissioning activities at our factory and, occasionally, at customer sites.
- Contribute to repeatable full-scale designs, while also supporting innovation, pilot systems, and new product development.
- Represent Saltworks professionally when working with customers and suppliers, including occasional field visits (travel to the USA is required).
- A relevant engineering degree and are eligible (or working toward eligibility) to register as a P.Eng. with EGBC.
- 3–5 years of relevant experience as an engineer or engineering designer in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Experience contributing to engineering deliverables in a fast-paced, hands-on setting.
- Exposure to industrial equipment and standards such as ASME, B31.1, pressure piping, heat exchangers, pumps, or similar (deep expertise is not required — willingness to learn is key).
- An interest in growing into a project management–focused role.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills in English, with the ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
- Ability to manage priorities and maintain a high standard of work while learning new skills.
- Attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of meeting project timelines.
- Positive, proactive attitude with a willingness to support the team and take on new challenges.
- Interest in hands-on work and troubleshooting; practical tooling experience is an asset but not required.
- Bonus: exposure to SolidWorks 3D design software or AutoCAD P&ID.
